Computers & TVs contain chemicals potentially harmful to human health and the environment including lead, mercury, cadmium, beryllium, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), chromium, arsenic, antimony and brominated flame retardants (BFRs).
Computers &TVs can be recycled, making use of valuable component materials and diverting this potentially hazardous waste from landfill.
The SHOROC Councils – incorporating Manly, Mosman, Warringah and Pittwater Councils, have banned e-waste from Council's household waste collections and from being accepted for landfill at Kimbriki. So please deliver to the 'Computers, TVs, E-waste' recycling area.
Computers and Televisions are sent to PGM Refiners in Melbourne for recycling. This company recycles e-waste in accordance with Australian legal requirements under the Hazardous Waste (Regulation of Exports and Imports) Act 1989 as well as under recognised international standards. PGM Refiners' recycling facility breaks down e-waste into it major components and raw materials. They then apply value-adding processes to e-waste materials which are then used by manufacturers to create new consumer products.
